purpose
PURPOSE & ACTION: Tom Evenson, Union Pacific Railroad, will provide a briefing on the proposed merger between the Union Pacific Railroad (UP) and Norfolk Southern Railway (NS). CMAP staff will provide an analysis of the environmental impacts of the proposed merger, based on projections provided by UP and NS. The analysis includes information about significant impacts across northeastern Illinois, with a focus on grade crossings, air quality, passenger rail, hazardous materials volumes, and truck traffic, and proposes options to mitigate each impact.
